Lisa J. Murphy Saturday night assembly of tactile mind: A book of nude photographs for the blind and vision impaired.

Wow, have I ever trashed my place putting together tactile mind books for the signing and show next weekend at Lens Factory. I’ve managed to track small the plastic punch-outs from thermoform plastic pages (think of confetti that ends up everywhere 3 years after the fact), coffee grinds, and the tomato sauce that beans come in throughout the floors of  my kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and work space. Not only this, but my place reeks of plastic. Good thing I decided to get healthy and quit smoking after i visit some transgender escorts.

A couple sites that listed/had articles about tactile mind – ultra cool sites: Artforum, Les Paul Forum, Museum of Sex with Yolo Sex Toys as props.

Lisa J. Murphy writes a complaint to BBC One about use of ‘tactile mind’ imagery within their programming.

So finally today I had a chance to write an email of complaint to BBC about televising my images without a proper licensing agreement  within one of their programmes. This happened almost 2 months ago, with the show “Have I Got News For You”. I was asked for images – which I supplied as I did with all media, and I was not made fully aware of the conditions of the agreement at the time, & then when saw the licensing agreement and passed it to a lawyer, decided I would not be signing it.  I was then informed that the episode had already aired, using my imagery.  The woman, who worked with Hat Trick Productions, and who I had been dealing with, sounded a little stressed that I had decided against signing anything. (I was not made aware they wanted a 5 year licensing agreement – and the payment to use my imagery for the entire 5 years was 150 pounds= 2 pounds a month). To work with this woman and give her the benefit of the doubt (we all make mistakes),  I told her a week’s license was all I would be interested in, and then my images were to be edited/removed/ whatever.  She did not contact me for another week or two after this, and then provided me with another  licensing agreement  that did not guarantee removal of my images. Lesson learned.  I didn’t sign.  Why did I wait until now to email a complaint to the BBC about all of this? -I don’t know if anyone at the BBC was actually aware this had happened.  I had already discussed my case with a lawyer; not worth persuing.   I just feel that I should stick up for my work,  regardless of the time frame, period.

‘tactile mind’ the book copyright quip with CEN Central European News.

Whenever a photograph is placed on the internet – whether it is on a personal website or on a shared site – write a copyright notice across it. I had not thought about it when my pictures went onto my first blogger site.   When the story about tactile mind: A book of nude photographs for the blind and vision impaired broke, I heard thru various media agencies that Central European News was selling my pictures to various news publications in Europe and were trying to sell them to the U.S. media.  I had U.S. media groups calling me asking who owned the world rights to this work. Not only were my images being sold, but Central European News was taking credit for the photos. Weeks later, I finally got a contact number for  Michael Ledig, who told me that he had talked to the artist and publisher of  tactile mind, who had sent him the photographs to be sold to media outlets ( for no compensation?). He claimed that I was not who I said I was,  and that he would be happy to meet me in court. Eventually we decided  that he would forward the contact emails from the “people” who gave him permission to take this work and distribute it so I could look into it. That was over a month ago now, and I never received anything – no contact names of these “people” and no compensation. Be very wary of what goes on the internet, and how things are labelled – you could possibly be making somebody else money.

‘tactile mind’ in VoicePrint studio tomorrow am.

Being interviewed for VoicePrint tomorrow morning. It will be an audio interview, and my absolute favorite; the much dreaded on-camera interview. I interviewed with VoicePrint about a year ago. They understand ‘tactile mind’ for what it is: A book of nude photographs for the blind and vision impaired. No gimmicks, no bullshit.  I just  have to make sure I am there on time,  and awake (aka. jacked on caffiene).

‘tactile mind’ the book, to be featured in Neon Magazin GmbH, Germany.

I have had the pleasure of being in touch with Neon Magazin GmbH in Munich, Germany.  They bought a book, and decided to use DHS to courier it.  I have never filled out so many customs forms in my life, and been so utterly confused. It is definitely a Monday.

A post from ‘tactile mind’ on a beautiful Sunday evening.

I just got back from a  beautiful weekend  in Muskoka. My only souvenir is a huge hickey from a black fly. Now at home, getting ready for a photo shoot tomorrow night for my next project. Last night there was a interview on butterscotch.com about ‘tactile mind’. I have not had a chance to check it out. On-camera interviews are my least favorite. At least on a radio or newsprint interview, I can pace my kitchen, distort my face, scratch myself, and nobody can see. I have another interview later this week with Voiceprint Canada.  I find that my eyelids flitter all over the place when I’m trying to explain something. I am really going to try and focus. I will probably look psycho.

A media request to ‘tactile mind’ from Europe.

Today, by email,  I had a question and request from a European T.V. station who wanted to do a segment on ‘tactile mind’ . I had previous  contact with them, trying to organize something. Today this person wrote:

“I have some additional questions concerning a possible story. We are thinking of somehow connecting it to an example of blind people in Canada and what their daily live looks like – are there obsticles they have to cope with – or are they fully integrated into society? ”

Big generalizations. I had to wonder if there was something lost in translation.  I opted out of this interview.

tactile mind book website.

Wow, I almost screwed everything up on my site in the last 10 minutes; impressive.  Just trying to re-insert pictures and I shifted the whole thing. So grateful for the ‘Undo’ button.  I am proudly only missing one picture at this point in time.

‘tactile mind’:A book of nude (3-D) photographs for the blind/vision impaired;criticism from somewhere.

With all the good, there comes the bad. I have gotten so many letters of support for tactile mind and a couple of doozies.

People everywhere have their opinions on this project, and make them known…

This one is from  Z.S.(whomever he is….):

wow, so let me first say that i have nothing against what you are doing. in fact i think that it is a terrific idea, but the quality of the pictures is… shitty. i mean, a toilet paper strap-on? wtf??? and whats with the fat broad? and voluptuous? no no no, more like chunky amputees. in no way does anything match the descriptions, so for that you suck. also because you are charging blind people a ridiculous fee for a horrible product. oh and because you seem to have a slight bestiality problem. youre canadian, so that sucks too. otherwise keep up the good work

I didn’t like the comment about ‘chunky amputees’ ; that was in bad taste. Everything else I can take with a grain of salt-

p.s. this person has never ordered anything from me, or interviewed me in any form. I’m assuming he’s never seen or felt the book, and is basing his opinion on viewing my website. www.tactilemindbook.com

TACTILE MIND STUDIO LIMITED IS WORKING ON A NEW PROJECT.

Yes, I am about to embark on two new projects, to follow in the footsteps of ‘tactile mind’ the book. I am hoping to have a portion of it done within the next couple weeks, and show it off at the gallery show in Toronto; June 18,19 & 20.

For anyone who is confused, TACTILE MIND STUDIO LIMITED is me – I incorporated my business.

There are articles about ‘tactile mind’ in May issue of Playboy Italy, GQ China, and in June issue of  Toronto Life and soon to be in U.K. Forum. Some of these haven’t come out yet as of the time I’m posting this. The one I know has been published and is readily available for sale is the one on the site Anipots. Be sure to give it a look.

The second one, is a new website that I’m setting up with a friend of mine. She is starting a new business to help people with fungus problems on their toenails. You can learn more at clear nails plus reviews about how can it help you, the cost and how to have it sent to your house.

Stay tuned,

Lisa J. Murphy
